My philosophy
Humanness is hard, but we often make it harder than it needs to be. The therapeutic process can be a redemptive agent of change with the appropriate support. I see people as wonderfully made with complex biological, psychological, social, environmental, generational, and spiritual aspects living within interrelated systems. No individual, couple, or family is beyond help, HOPE, or healing. It simply looks different for each of us.
More about me
I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2013 with a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling (MACC) from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in both North and South Carolina as well as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina. I am a member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology, am certified in Prepare/Enrich couples counseling and Attachment Communication Training, and endorsed by New Life Ministries’ national referral network of Christian counselors. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from New York University in 1989.
My clinical rotations included intensive training and supervision in premarital and marital therapy, individual counseling, and work with adolescents, seniors, and support groups at Forest Hill Church’s Care & Counseling Center/South Park and Pfeiffer University’s Charlotte campus. In addition to private practice, I have been a TA at Gordon-Conwell, and counseled male and female inmates at Mecklenburg County Jail Central in partnership with a rehabilitative program called Changed Choices. Areas of therapeutic interest include, but are not limited to, anxiety and depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, infertility and adoption issues, grief and loss, marital & relational disorders, infidelity, separation and divorce care, parenting, spiritual issues, and life transitions.
Through an asset-based, research-rooted lens, I use a variety of integrated therapeutic approaches depending on presenting issues, personalities, relationships, and goals. Person-centered and attachment structures undergird all my clinical work with the goal of creating a safe and inviting atmosphere where feelings, thoughts, values, and beliefs can be freely and confidentially explored without fear of judgment.
I have lived all over the country from California to New York, been married to my best friend for over 30 years and have an awesome young adult son. Together we love dogs, traveling, serving and SCUBA diving.
